Which contents can I expect in the course of my studies?

Unique: 100% quantitative-mathematical content, taught by research-oriented professors

  • Data Analytics
  • Operations Research
  • Algorithms & Programming
  • Modeling, Optimization & Machine Learning/AI
  • Quantitative Research Methods

Application Areas:

  • Circular Economy
  • (Dynamic) Pricing & Revenue Management
  • Logistics
  • Mobility
  • Operations Management & Production
  • Supply Chain Management

What will I be able to do after graduation?

You will learn to make better decisions using data and algorithms. You will be able to apply the right methods from Data Science and Business Analytics to any business question. In short, you will be a true problem solver for any application. Whether starting your career in a leadership position, at the intersection of technology and management, or as a programming professional, you will be well-prepared.

Specifically, you will learn to:

  • Analyze data using statistical methods and machine learning techniques.
  • Describe problem structures using advanced mathematical analysis and optimization methods.
  • Develop practical and theoretically sound solutions for specific planning problems.
  • Analyze traffic-specific decision problems and model them using appropriate optimization models.
  • Analyze and describe customer behavior to optimize offer and pricing decisions.
  • Apply solution methods for optimization models with multiple decision-makers and game theory techniques to solve problems in supply chains.
  • Analyze the relationships between relevant decision variables in the planning problems addressed.
  • Independently implement these tasks using prominent software packages such as R, Python, and Matlab.

What else should I know?

  • Close cooperation with industry partners (e.g., HelloFresh, Lufthansa, Picnic, ShareNow)
  • Opportunity to work on exciting practical and research projects (e.g., as a research assistant or in a thesis)
  • Direct contact with attractive employers
  • Block system with compact teaching, learning, and examination phases
  • Mobility window for easier integration of study abroad periods
  • Study location: Duisburg campus
  • Numerous international partnerships (International Office)
  • Professional study organization and advising, small groups

Which career fields am I qualified for?

The Master’s program ideally qualifies you for jobs in Business/Data Analytics and Data Science.

Through the solid methodological training, you learn to think through issues in a structured manner, as well as to develop and evaluate solutions. This enables you to take on challenging roles in both technical fields (where you implement solutions yourself) and in management. In particular, it is essential that you can critically question and assess solutions proposed by others.

Specifically, the ability to analyze, model, evaluate, and solve complex problems with the acquired interdisciplinary knowledge qualifies you for responsible roles in any industry or service company. This skill set is also highly sought after in management consulting.
