Admission to the Doctoral Procedure
(1) Which documents must be submitted for admission to the doctoral procedure pursuant to § 6 PromO 2012?
(see the Promotionsordnung der MSM / Note: As a result of a unanimous resolution of the Faculty Council dated 19th July 2017, Appendix 4 is no longer applicable):
- Completed application for admission to the doctoral procedure (signed)
- Signed curriculum vitae, including date of birth, place of birth, residential address, email address, nationality/nationalities, and educational background
- Marriage certificate (if applicable)
- Proof of fulfillment of the required admission requirements pursuant to § 4 PromO 2012:
- Master’s degree certificate and diploma, either in the original or as a certified copy
- Bachelor’s degree certificate, either in the original or as a certified copy
- Higher education entrance qualification (Abitur certificate) in the original or as a certified copy, or a certificate recognized as equivalent by the competent state authority, in the original or as a certified copy
- Exposé outlining the preliminary topic of the intended dissertation
(no specific requirements regarding format or length) - Two copies of the supervision agreement
(signed by the supervisor and the applicant – the applicant is responsible for obtaining the signatures)
(2) When must the documents be submitted?
The application documents for admission to the doctoral procedure may be submitted at any time, independently of the meeting dates of the Doctoral Committee, by prior appointment with Ms Nowak (dekanat (at) msm.uni-due.de).
The decision of the Doctoral Committee regarding admission to the doctoral procedure will be communicated to the applicant in writing. Admission is accompanied by entry into the MSM list of doctoral candidates.
(3) Where and how are the documents submitted?
The complete set of documents must be submitted to the Dean’s Office to Ms Severine Nowak (LB 033). Only certified copies will be accepted. Alternatively, certificates and diplomas may be presented in the original. Certified copies can be produced on site by Ms Nowak. Please note that only complete applications can be processed within the doctoral procedure.
(4) Information on enrolment in the doctoral degree programme in Business Administration
Please observe the enrolement requirements in accordance with the enrolment regulations of the University of Duisburg-Essen and review the handout on enrolment in the doctoral degree programme.
For enrolment in the doctoral degree programme “Betriebswirtschaftslehre”, written confirmation from the Doctoral Committee of admission to the doctoral procedure / inclusion in the list of doctoral candidates is required.

Admission to the Doctoral Examination
(1) Which documents must be submitted for admission to the doctoral examination pursuant to § 7 PromO 2012?
(see the Promotionsordnung der MSM / Note: As a result of a unanimous resolution of the Faculty Council dated 19th July 2017, Appendix 4 is no longer applicable):
- Completed application for admission to the doctoral examination (signed)
- Four copies of the dissertation, typewritten and printed, including a signed declaration pursuant to § 10 para. 6 PromO and cover page template A
(Note: Please use the exact wording of the declaration pursuant to § 10 para. 6 PromO and the cover page template A without any modifications or additions.) - One electronic copy of the dissertation (PDF file on a USB stick)
- Table of contents for cumulative dissertations, indicating the individual contributions and co-authors
- Declaration on the use of artificial intelligence (signed)
(2) When must the documents be submitted?
The application documents for admission to the doctoral examination may be submitted at any time, independently of the meeting dates of the Doctoral Committee, by prior appointment with Ms Nowak (dekanat (at) msm.uni-due.de). The decision of the Doctoral Committee regarding admission to the doctoral examination will be communicated to the applicant in writing.
