A Korean delegation of 40 high-ranked company representatives and scientists, interested in Germany´s auto industry, visited the University of Duisburg-Essen, following up on the recently started Free Trade Agreement between Korea and the European Union. The Chair of East Asian Economic Studies/ Japan and Korea (Prof. Werner Pascha, Sven Horak, MSc) organized a program for the delegation on 30 November 2011, kindly hosted by the Fuel Cell Reserch Center (ZBT).

The delegation members included company CEO’s and managers from engineering firms, heavy industries, as well as representatives of governmental agencies, research institutes and university professors. The delegation was organized by the Korean Development Bank (KDB) and financially supported by the Korean government; the tour thorough Northrine-Westphalia was coordinated by NRW Invest.
Presentations of relevant university chairs and by the Fuel Cell Research Centre (ZBT) focussed on competencies and latest research projects in the area of automotive technology and alternative energies, especially e-mobility (see agenda below). In sum, four professorial chairs and the ZBT participated.

The event shall serve as a venue to exchange views and approaches on risk analysis among East Asian and European scholars as well as representatives from public authorities and NPOs. The financial crisis of 2008/09 or the recent triple disaster in Japan have made such an exchange of ideas and views ever more timely. Paper proposals are invited until 1 July; accepted presenters will be offered complimentary accomodation and a contribution to the travel costs. See the enclosed
call for papers for more details.

Culture as a factor for systematic decision making for every single person is still far away to gain a foothold in economical theory. Classic economical models are not flexible enough to discuss the factor culture in human behavior.
An experimental approach might be a good way to explore cultural parameter, their changing dynamics and their influence on economics. But while this methodology has established itself in the western world, it is still in the early stages of development in East Asia.
This workshop wants to support this approach and will present several lectures concerning this topic.
