8. Description of the study program
In the basic modules, students are required to study the subjects Business Administration, Economics, Law, Statistics, and Mathematics. The two advanced modules Accounting and Business Administration are also obligatory.
In the following course of their studies, students choose one out of four major business administration disciplines: Accounting and Finance, Technology and Operations Management, Management and Marketing or International Business Administration (information material).
In addition, the Bachelor program includes a complementary part which comprises three modules:
The module E1 "key skills" consists of the virtual case study TOPSIM.
In the module E2 students can choose from the following subjects: East Asian Economic Studies, Business English, European Business Law, Economic Psychology, Business Didactics, Sports Management, Business Mathematics, Business Law §13b WPO and small business management.
In the module E3 "studium liberale" students can choose lectures and seminars from other faculties of the University of Duisburg-Essen. The Institute for optional Studies is responsible for offering a catalogue of lectures every semester.
A training seminar for scientific methods prepares the students for their final Bachelor thesis.
9. Examinations/ECTS credits
According to the credit point system, students have to take 44 exams in the course of their studies (170 points). Credits are allocated for the respective lectures. The final Bachelor thesis (10 points including a preparatory training) has to be completed within eight weeks. Exams taken in the course of the studies can be repeated twice after the first attempt.
10. International
Semesters abroad are possible and welcome. The ISMA office (International Student and Employee Exchange) supports students in organizational matters. See more information about possible international double degrees.
11. Occupational objectives
Depending on the selected major discipline in the advanced part of the Bachelor Program, special methods and instruments for specific economic fields and functions will be taught alongside general economic skills. Thus, on the one hand, the Bachelor program enables students to successfully start a business career outside the university. On the other hand, it prepares them for further scientific qualifications in a specialized Master program.
The Bachelor degree qualifies students for all kinds of business administration occupations in companies of various economic sectors or an independent business start-up.
