Managerial Economics

 

The Department of Managerial Economics includes the three chairs of Economics, Microeconomics and International Economics, Monetary Economics and International Capital Markets and Methodology of Economics and Public Sector Economics. In addition, the department houses two chairs of East Asian Economic Studies (China and Japan/Korea), a chair for Business Education and Business Didactics, an assistant professorship for Quantitative Methods in Economics and the domain Economic Law. The two chairs of General Business Administration and General Economics are mainly responsible for lectures attended by the students of interdisciplinary programs.


The research activities of the department focus on core disciplines of the scientific discussion of economics. The professors and assistants conduct theoretical and empirical analyses of the monetary policy of the European Central Bank and the US Federal Reserve, examinations of interest and exchange rate development on international markets, studies of methodology and financial sciences, as well as of international trade and regional integration. The research output of the department is evident in numerous publications in international scientific magazines.


The research is additionally influenced by the two chairs of East Asian Economic Studies, which are also members of the Institute of East Asian Studies. The examinations range from theoretical questions to political consultation projects and management research studies.

 

The department regularly organizes research seminars with external guest lecturers from Germany and abroad. The Duisburg Economics Research Seminar Association organizes a series of publications with the Duncker und Humblot publishing company and supports young scientists in their participation in national and international scientific conferences.
